Moonshell Art Gallery on Hilton Head Island, SC, Features Works by Mary LaRue Wells and Sally Leydec

Moonshell Art Gallery proudly presents an exhibition, On The Edge, featuring works in acrylic and collage by Mary LaRue Wells and blown glass by Sally Leydec. The exhibit will be on view through July 20, 2005.

Mary LaRue Wells' paintings are representational with a twist and are about situations and conversations. Wells creates situations in which sometimes people and animals confront and relate to each other. Other times with animals alone dominating the scene with their intelligence and beauty. Usually the scenes are created from her vivid imagination. Wells uses patterns and symbols such as money, dice or eyeglasses to weave the story together and to invite close observation.

Wells graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Fine Art and has participated in numerous juried competitions and exhibitions across the country. She now divides her time between Reston, VA, and Scottsdale, AZ.

Sally Leydec is living in Charleston, SC, and has been a working artist of that state since 1980. She participated in the SC Governor's School for the Arts in high school and left there to attend art school.

Leydec's works include bowls, platters and vases blown into a myriad of colors which are both unusual and creative. She now has a glass studio in North Charleston, SC, and hopes to further the knowledge of glass used as an art form in the state.

Leydec's art pieces are in collections throughout the United States.
