Maddi's Gallery in Huntersville, NC, Sponsors Folk Art Festival

Maddi's Gallery is celebrating folk art with its second annual Folk Art Festival, June 9 - 11, 2006, at it Birkdale Village location in Huntersville, NC. More than 25 of the South's finest folk artists will gather on the lawn for three days exhibiting, demonstrating and selling their work.

It's really a phenomenal group," says Maddi's owner, Diane Sulg. "They represent every folk genre, including painting, carving, folk pottery and jewelry." Maddi's sponsors the festival, but takes no commission from the artists. "It's our way of supporting the folk artists who have contributed so much to our national artistic heritage," said Sulg.

The artists occupy the Village Green outdoors at Birkdale Village for three days. Among the artists scheduled to appear are painters, Kim Clayton, Susie Ham, Paul Flack, Michelle De Fillipo-Stewart, Wendy Worsham, James Dean, Theresa Gloster, Steve Swain, Penny Dobson, Tim and Lisa Kluttz, John Sperry and Noel Mays who paints and then frames many of her pieces with stained glass.

Folk potters at the Festival include Jack T. Manness, Vicki Miller-Greer, Joe Foster, Michael Ball and Barbara Miller. Other artists include jeweler Ann Finley, Kim Dean who sculpts clay into whimsical figures, Shane Campbell whose carvings are in many prestigious folk art collections and Philip Simmons who carves and embellishes elaborate pieces of driftwood into amazing "critters".

A guest of the Festival, folk artist Addie James, will be painting at the event. James lost her house and virtually everything she owned in a house fire earlier this year. Atlanta, GA, artist "Ab the Flagman" will be showing his carved and painted art as well as performing with his rock-a-billy band.
