The Meeting Place, Art and Craft Co-op in North Charleston, SC, Features Works by Lin Barnhardt

The Meeting Place, Art and Craft Co-op, located in the Olde North Charleston Business District in North Charleston, SC, will be displaying Lin Barnhardt's exhibition Homage to Hopper, from June 29 through July 30, 2006.

Barnhardt's handbuilt clay houses are three-dimensional paintings of architectural landmarks, presented from a "bird's-eye" view. The skewed perspective combined with trompe l'oeil effects in the painted surface create a unique result. The scale, forced perspective, and slight distortions demonstrate a distinct way of interpreting the original structures. This recent series of works based on the paintings of Edward Hopper has given the artist a chance to explore his fascination with light.

This exhibition commemorates the approaching 40th anniversary of Hopper's death and coincides with the Edward Hopper in Charleston, exhibition on view at the Gibbes Museum of Art, through Aug. 13, 2006.

Barnhardt has exhibited his works throughout the US in numerous galleries and national and regional competitions. His work is represented in many collections, including The White House, Philip Morris USA, Charlotte/Mecklenburg Public Arts Commission, and First Charter National Bank.
