Charleston Crafts in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Sherrie Pompeii

Sherrie Pompeii of Mount Pleasant, SC, will have her silver jewelry featured in an exhibit at Charleston Crafts in Charleston, SC, on view through June 30, 2007.

Pompeii's delicate feminine designs are inspired by the intrinsic beauty seen in wrought and cast iron work, especially those examples seen in and around Charleston. To really understand the art of wrought iron, Pompeii began with a course in blacksmithing at the American College of Building Arts. To help translate the wrought iron designs into silver, she has continued her studies at the William Holland School of Lapidary Arts. While staying true to the basic premise of using scroll work shapes, Pompeii sometimes accents her creations with gem stones or Austrian crystals.

Pompeii says, "A blacksmith will start his masterpiece with a rod of iron and end with a piece of art that beautifies its surroundings. I do the same, in  miniature, with precious metals wire." Her goal is to give everyone a chance to wear a tangible memory of the beauty and history of Charleston.

Pompeii is the busy mother of three teen-age children. She and her family enjoy living in coastal South Carolina.

Pompeii's work can be viewed at Charleston Crafts Gallery, or at the Charleston Farmers' Market every Saturday morning at Marion Square in downtown Charleston.

Charleston Crafts Gallery is a co-op gallery exhibiting the members work in a variety of media.
