Charlotte Art League in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Students from The Art Institute of Charlotte

Charlotte Art League in Charlotte, NC, will present the exhibit, Mental Ink, featuring works by Graphic Design students at The Art Institute of Charlotte, on view from June 1 - 9, 2007. Work ranging from illustrations to CD covers will be presented.

The Art Institute of Charlotte's First Juried Graphic Design Competition and Exhibition features about 35 works from among about 60 entries.

Carole Drummond-Johnson, graphic design academic director at The Art Institute, said the exhibit "features a sampling of all of our classes from package design to posters."

Serving as juror for Mental Ink was Lou Kinard, a 23-year veteran of graphic design who has won numerous awards and was profiled last year by Communication Arts online magazine. For several years, Kinard had her own design and illustration business in Charlotte where her clients included (then) First Union National Bank and NationsBank,  Opera Carolina and the Charlotte Observer. She became creative director of Pinkerton Services Group where her clients included national corporations such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Home Shopping Network, Pep Boys and Office Depot. After teaching herself web and interactive media design, she joined Interactive Knowledge, a company that creates rich-media websites for cultural institutions and nonprofits such as the Smithsonian, the Whitney Museum, PBS and the Girl Scouts.
