June Issue 2010

Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Features Works by Diane Virkler

Providence Gallery in Charlotte, NC, will present a one-woman exhibit of works by Diane Virkler, on view from June 4 - 30, 2010.

A graduate of Centenary College, Hackettstown, NJ and Queens University, Charlotte, NC, Virkler has studied privately for over two decades, honing her skill as a painter. Her professional background in the home building industry includes serving as organizer for HomeArama, one of the Southeast's largest home shows. Her interest and expertise in building is apparent in her cityscape compositions, in which well-known buildings and architectural elements are often portrayed in detail. Virkler's talent and skill won recognition at the 2008 Art with Heart annual benefit auction, where she was declared winner of the Emerging Artist Competition.

To gather her subject matter, Virkler photographs the scenes that inspire her, later using these images as the basis of her paintings created in studio. The current exhibit will feature scenes from cities across the United States including: Chicago, New York and Charleston, South Carolina, to name just a few.

A versatile artist, Virkler is adept at creating paintings that range from genre scenes captured in bold, primary colors, to totalistic street scenes, conveying the anonymity of life in a busy city.
