RIVERWORKS Gallery in Greenville, SC, Offers Work by Crystal Vinson & Ginia Worrell

RIVERWORKS Gallery in Greenville, NC, will present Exposed, featuring photographs by Crystal Vinson and Ginia Worrell, on view from June 7 through July 19, 2013. A reception will be held on June 7, from 6-9pm. The gallery will be closed from July 1 - 11, 2013.

Exposed is an exhibition of photographs by Crystal Vinson and Ginia Worrell. Each defines “exposed” as disarmed and vulnerable but each exposes through opposite processes, Vinson subtractive and Worrell, additive. Vinson’s photographs are hyper focused fashion images that undermine that glamorous artifice revealing a darkly humorous individual vulnerability. Worrell’s photographs assert the most up close and personal exposure of herself and her individual, everyday life.

Vinson disarms an individual’s hard edged performance in search of individuality. Worrell lays herself bare as a way of exploring her individuality and reconciling the parts to the whole. Vinson exposes the conflict of the individual as prey and popular culture as the predator and Worrell exposes the conflict of anxiety within the individual.

Exposed was curated by Zane Logan, Instructor of Photography at Greenville Tech. Logan observes, “Vinson’s models are cast as strong, almost robotic, characters but once they are stripped of the accessory that is fashion, we are witness to their vulnerability. Worrell allows us to witness and contemplate her struggles by allowing access into private spaces.”

Vinson is currently a freelance graphic designer and photographer based in New York City. She began her career as an art student at Greenville Technical College where Worrell is currently a student.

RIVERWORKS Gallery is operated by and for the faculty and students of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Greenville Technical College. The gallery is located along the scenic Reedy River in downtown Greenville.
