Artists League of the Sandhills in Aberdeen, NC, Offers Annual Art Competition - Absolutely Art

The Artists League of the Sandhills in Aberdeen, NC, will present Absolutely Art, its eighth annual art competition, on view from June 2 - 27, 2013. A reception and awards ceremony will be held on June 2, from 5-7pm. Winners for best in each category as well as best overall will be announced at 5:30pm. This exhibit is the only exhibit at the League that is judged by a professional art authority at which cash prizes are awarded. In addition, everyone attending will be asked to participate by selecting the artwork for the “People’s Choice” Award.

Judging this exhibit is Joseph DiGiulio, an internationally recognized artist who resides in Raleigh, NC. Trained in art education at East Carolina University in the 70’s, DiGiulio worked in the textile screen-printing industry until the 90’s. His screen-printing business catered to clients such as Phillip Morris, Pepsi Cola, Adidas and Banana Republic. DiGiulio’s work highlights his outstanding eye for color. He has traveled to Sydney, Australia to help develop a range of fine artist acrylic color for Matisse Derivan, and to Southern France, testing out another paint line, Charvin Oil Colour.

DiGiulio holds numerous awards, such as the SAS Institute Purchase Award, and has recent installations at the Raleigh Duke Hospital and the new RBC building in downtown Raleigh. His latest pieces are large-scale abstract acrylic paintings that reflect his use of color, line, shape and texture. DiGiulio has juried many scholastic art completions in recent years for the Visual Art Exchange in Raleigh and was one of the two jurors for the K-12 category for art at the 2008 North Carolina State Fair, and recently the Scholastic Art Awards for 2009 featuring students work from over 69 counties of Eastern North Carolina at Barton College. His work is represented by Art Source as well as Nicole’s Studios and Gallery, both of Raleigh, NC. DiGiulio brings a fresh, innovative approach to his paintings, capturing the inner personality and energy that makes each of his works unique.

The Artists League of the Sandhills is a nonprofit organization founded in 1994 to promote interest in the visual arts by providing quality art education and a friendly environment in which to work and exhibit. It is located in historic downtown Aberdeen in the old Aberdeen Rockfish Railroad storage terminal.
