Carroll Rivers at Summer House Gallery in Highlands, NC

Carroll Rivers, a well-known artist from the coast of SC to the mountains of NC, will open an exhibition of new works at The Summer House Gallery in Highlands, NC, July 7-27, 2000.

Rivers paints mostly watercolors and gouaches, but has included pastels and oils in this exhibition. She chose watercolors for their portability when she started painting in 1967, but loves them for the light and life that emanates from them. Her subjects come from a real love of the outdoors and are focused on the NC mountains in the summertime and the Charleston area the rest of the year. Rivers' love of the outdoors landed her in the hospital last winter with a broken leg that she sustained form a fall off of a horse. "I nearly lost my mind not being able to paint during the recuperation, but I have made up for lost time since then. Paintings is a mental exercise and never loses its challenge and its joy," Rivers said.

Rivers is a founding member of the Waterfront Gallery in Charleston, SC, and teaches during the summer months in Cashiers, NC. Among her successes are top awards in the Rocky Mountain National Watermedia competition, the SC Watercolor Society and many other national shows and exhibitions.

The next exhibition at Summer House Gallery features the southeastern regional favorite, Edward Rice, July 29 - Aug. 27, 2000.
