Wickwire Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Offers Exhibition of Works by Jacobson, Wilson & Mikell

Wickwire fine art/folk art Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, features the painting of Janet Green Jacobson, Cynthia Wilson, and Marnie Mikell in Colorful Serenity. Viewers are invited to enjoy peaceful, serene impressions of nature's light and shadow, form, design and color portrayed by three intuitive artists from July 27 through Aug. 24.

Janet Green Jacobson, winner of art awards across the Southeast, has earned the respect of juror, fellow artists, and most importantly - the public. Jacobson has long been a passionate student of watercolor. She received a BA and MFA from the University of South Carolina. Still learning after twenty-five years she now, in addition to water media, uses acrylic, pastel and sometimes oil. Her rich, bold and vibrant color impressions stretch boundaries revealing sights she loves - mountain vistas. She avoids detail and prefers to let overall light and shadow tell the story. Her emotive focus is of memories and of feelings of her surroundings. With a wet-on-wet technique and a layering of glazing washes, Jacobson establishes a subtle mood transparently tinting a landscape's mystery and timelessness.

Cynthia Wilson , who is listed in Who's Who in American Art and has a BFA in graphic Design from Auburn University, is a signature member of the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society, New England Watercolor Society, and The National Association of Painters in Casein and Acrylic. Art director, teacher, and coast-to-coast traveller, Wilson has found her art to be the suitcase in which she carries her heart. From Washington, DC to a closely-knit Alabama community as a child, she found the tranquility of isolated country roads which were a comfort and endless opportunity for imaginative journeys. The area fueled her passion and joy in painting expressive works on paper and canvas. Wilson became a full-time artist after years as a graphic designer. She believes you must strengthen the "bones" of a painting for surface and color to grow. To her credit, Wilson's working methods were published in "Artists" magazine in 1993. She loves watching artists develop and so continues to teach and share with others what she has learned as a water media artist. She seeks to expand another's vision in this diverse medium focusing on design principles, simplification of process, and limiting palette to bring colorful vibrancy to paintings.

Marnie Mikell, who works as a commercial illustrator and graphic designer after receiving her BA in Art, developed a love for the landscape at an early age. Since 1973, the natural beauty of NC's Jackson County in the area of the Blue Ridge has provided continuing, endless inspiration for breathtaking inspiration. Mikell drew and painted when young and easily influenced. Her maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather, both artists, surrounded her with their creative expression. By the time Mikell graduated from high school, she was doing portraits and showing watercolors. She strives to capture the feeling of joy and awe she experiences in nature. Her serene, light-filled landscapes express what she feels is "the love between spirit and matter." Mikell's inexplicable talent as an artist has earned her exhibitions in Hendersonville and Asheville, NC, and Columbia, SC.
