White Moon Gallery in Cashiers, NC, Features Works by Gwen Nagel & Others

White Moon Gallery in Cashiers, NC, is showcasing new works by pastelist Gwen Nagel from Athens, GA/ Monhegan Island, ME. The exhibit will be on view July 1 - Aug. 31.

Nagel's pastoral pastels of the Highlands/Cashiers, NC, area are quite moving and timeless. Her technique has a quality of tranquil composure. Previously her subject matter has been coastal Maine, but living part year in the upstate of GA has given her new challenges in landscape painting. She solves the mystery of the rainforest terrain of the western NC and GA mountains with simple depth. These rural scenes of nature shout to be revealed.

Also featured are Karen Weihs' new mountain abstracts. Her brush strokes and palette knife marks are like a dance between rolling expanse realism and colorful abstracted shapes. She has successfully married her interest in abstract form and the beauty of the landscape. Simple pattern is interrupted by beautiful contradictions. Vaporous clouds blend remarkably with earthy peaks. Viewers can read a reality in all the shapes and forms.

Sculpture by Jim Palmer and pottery by Jeri Burdick and Heather Martinez is incorporated in the line-up of fine craft talent. Metalsmith H.T. Shrader shows off his young talent with rhododendron metal crafted branches and granite table slabs from the Cullowhee, NC, mountain area for the artful home. This is an impressive selection of chandeliers, tables and chairs. The famous handbag designer to the movie stars, MooRoo of Charleston, SC, finishes off a unique variety of innovative pieces of fine art and craft. MooRoo can be seen in Oprah Magazine this month as well as People Magazine this past winter. MooRoo was invited to the private Oscar showing for designers, and has captured star power with her one-of-a-kind hand-painted and jeweled handbags.

White Moon Gallery is also showcasing their line-up of talent in the Cashiers Valley Designer Showhouse held yearly in Cashiers to benefit the Preservation Society of Cashiers. Karen Weihs is decorating the kitchen with craft and fine art from the artists represented in the gallery. This year it is in the High Hampton Resort Community from July 17 through the end of July. Tickets are available at White Moon Gallery. The mountain hamlet of Cashiers will come alive in July as people flock to the moisture of cool air and quality of life. White Moon is also alive with creative achievement.
