Local Artists Have a Chance to Receive Professional Education Training Through the Afro-American Cultural Center in Charlotte, NC

The Afro-American Cultural Center in Charlotte, NC, is taking applications for the 2004-2005 Artist Educators Professional Development Roundtable series. This program will focus on arts integrative training, providing the educational resources for the eighteenth ³Roundtable Fellows.² The deadline for all applications is Aug. 6, 2004.

The training is a 10-month educational forum for multidisciplinary teaching artists to learn effective techniques for developing educational programming and to enhance career management skills. The training will primarily center on the integration of the arts into the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School systemıs academic curriculum, based upon the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The Center will coordinate the presentation of Roundtable dialogues through facilitators who will provide information, which enhances the artistıs skills.

The roundtable brings an impressive collection of professional, multidisciplinary artists together to elevate their career development as teaching artist. The desired outcome of this initiative is to make a difference for students, teachers and the artists. ³Our intent with the Roundtable is to allow artists to have a voice on a level playing field in support of the educational needs of the Charlotte community,² says Vikkii Beckwith Graham, Director of Community Cultural Programs at the Center.
