July Issue 2004

Wickwire Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Features Works by Sarah Sneeden

Wickwire fineart/flok art in Hendersonville, NC, will present the exhibit, Treasures of the Forest, featuring original oil paintings by Sarah Sneeden. The exhibit on view from July 23 through Sept. 6, 2004, will include images of trails, waterfalls, and towering pines from DuPont State Forest.

Sneeden will be contributing a portion of the proceeds from the show to benefit Friends of DuPont Forest a 501[c]3 non-profit, volunteer service organization working to enhance the public use and enjoyment of the Forest while protecting its natural resources.

Sneeden has resided in North Carolina since 1967 she is a native of Pennsylvania. She graduated from Centenary College in New Jersey, the Famous Artists School, the New York Institute of Photography, and the Portrait Institute of New York. Attending annual workshops in the West (Montana, Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico and California) have added educational experience and new ideas to her painting repertoire. A voracious reader, Sneeden's extensive art library (close to 500 volumes) keeps the art world at her fingertips.

Sneeden has won Best of Show awards in Brevard, Tryon, and Hendersonville, NC. She was awarded the Grumbacher Gold Medallion for excellence in the '99 Pen Women Show. Her experience, distinctive style, and versatility are evident in her original and innumerable works of art.

Sneeden likes watercolors, primacolor pencils, and pastels for sketching but prefers the permanency of oils for her finished pieces. When she can find a sunny spot, her favorite way of working is en plein air working on location where she can study firsthand the play of light on her subject.
