July Issue 2005

Charleston Artist Guild Gallery in Charleston, SC, Features Works by Debbie Daniels

The Charleston Artist Guild Gallery in downtown Charleston, SC, will present an exhibition of oil paintings entitled, Meditations, by Debbie Daniels. The exhibition will open on July 19, and continue through Aug. 15, 2005.

In 1984 after moving to Maryland with her husband, Daniels began painting with watercolor. She gained an associates degree in Art from Howard Community College in Columbia, MD, in 1991.

Daniels returned to Charleston with her family in 1992 and continued studying art part time at the College of Charleston while raising two children and finally graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1998. During this time, the artist developed her new medium of choice - oil painting. Much of Daniels' subject matter comes from the surrounding area of Charleston.

Meditations will feature 16 oil paintings, including the work, Azaleas, which won the Summerville Flowertown Festival design competition in 2005. The artist comments, "Painting is a form of meditating for me. My paintings tend to be quiet and peaceful, reflecting how I feel as I paint. Exploring nuances of color and light on a subject keep me immersed in my artwork."
