Mills has won awards and honorable mentions from Vienna Society of Artists in Virginia, the Art League of Henderson County.

Mills says of her work, "My artistic desire has always been to convey as nearly as I can the inner feelings I have of amazement and wonder when I observe the complexity and beauty of the world around me. To be able to represent those feelings through composition, color and design is a challenge and fulfillment for me. It is my heartfelt wish that my art can give pleasure or inspiration to someone else."
