Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, Features Works by Ralph Coats

Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, is featuring works by Ralph Coats. The exhibition of oil paintings will run from July 16 through Aug. 11, 2007.

Coats, who is a native of North Carolina, obtained his degree in business administration, but minored in art. He then continued his art studies by attending the Art Students League in New York City, where his instructors included Greig Kreutz and Harold Dinnerstein. He also studied portraiture with Daniel Green and attended the En Plein Air School of Painting in Provence, France.

Coats has devoted himself to painting full time for over 12 years, during which time he has had ten one-man shows. He now continues to travel Europe and the US studying landscape paintings.

Coats has been commission by private individuals and has also completed a series of commission for Campbell University and Morgan Stanley. The show at Sunset River Marketplace will feature landscapes - including local landmarks in Southport, NC, and Sneads Ferry, NC, and still lifes.

Also on exhibit from July 2 - 14, 2007, is an eclectic group show entitled, Red, White & Blue, and features work by Scott Summerfield, Ortrud Tyler, Marcus McClanahan, June Brown and others.

Sunset River Marketplace showcases work by North and South Carolina artists, and houses some 10,000 square feet of oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, mixed media, art glass, pottery, sculpture, turned and carved wood and artisan-created jewelry. There are two onsite kilns used by students in the ongoing pottery classes offered by the gallery. There are also classes in oil painting, watercolor, pastel and figure drawing. Other intensive three- and five-day workshops with nationally known artists such as John Poon and Morgan Samuel Price are offered nearby at The Studio, which is the gallery's artist workshop facility.
