WICKWIRE in Hendersonville, NC, Offers Works by Nancy Oppenheimer

Nancy Oppenheimer

WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, NC, will present an exhibit of works with an intimate mood, drama in light and shadow, and the power of color by Nancy Oppenheimer, on view from July 1 - 31, 2007.

Oppenheimer graduated from The University of Hartford Art School, CT, cum laude, with a double major in Art and English Literature. Following her formal education she taught art for three years in the East Lyme, CT, Public School System. During that time, she attended Paier Art School, New Haven, CT, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI, and Connecticut College, New London, CT, concentrating on illustration and sculpture.

Oppenheimer worked in commercial illustration for many years, including ten years as a newspaper editorial illustrator. Explains Oppenheimer, "Here I learned to find the truth of a concept then marry it to a mood. Atop my easel is a quote and note to remind me of where it is I need to be. The quote is - We can do no great things, only small things with great love. The note reads - Think Intimacy."

Oppenheimer is a fine art artist. She says she is "at one with the universe" and wants others to feel this way and to allow her work to reveal itself to them. As a gallery artist, she tries to paint with the poet's hand and chooses the one mood of intimacy and the truth of beauty and grace. "I have worked in all mediums but I love pastels the most because they are the purest of all painting mediums - they have the least amount of binder - and no other medium affords such a range of brilliant colors."

Oppenheimer teaches privately and is represented by WICKWIRE fine art/folk art.

John Wayne Jackson

On July 28, 2007, from noon-3pm, John Wayne Jackson, creator of natural artistic expressions in "Leaf Art" will give a free demonstration at WICKWIRE's 329 N. Main Street location.
