Henderson County Public Library in Hendersonville, NC, Features Works by Coury Deeb

The Henderson County Public Library in Hendersonville, NC, will present the exhibit, The New Sudan, featuring photographs by Coury Deeb, on view in the Kaplan Room from July 1 - 31, 2008.

The Library is hosting this month long photography exhibit which highlights the issues and struggles taking place as Southern Sudan emerges from a 22 year civil war. The pictures are from the travels of Nadus founder Coury Deeb, as he and filmmaker William Wallace document the transition for the upcoming documentary film, "The New Sudan".

Southern Sudan was ravaged as years of war displaced over 4 million people while leaving over 2.5 million dead. It was the longest running civil war, with fighting still continuing to this day. While large parts of Southern Sudan remain committed to the peace initiative signed in 2005, many refugees have returned to their homes to find that there is little in the way of progress in rebuilding the infrastructure and utilizing natural resources. Clean drinking water is still one of the largest humanitarian issues.

Nadus was created to help show the world that there can no longer be a blind eye to the suffering in Southern Sudan. The photography exhibit features pictures taken over numerous trips to the region.
