Hillsborough Arts Council in Hillsborough, NC, Features Works by Gail Schaefer and Marcia McDade

The Hillsborough Arts Council in Hillsborough, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Italian Influences, featuring majolica pottery by Gail Schaefer and oil pastel drawings by Marcia McDade, on view in the HAC Gallery through July 23, 2011.

Gail Schaefer is inspired by the majolica pottery tradition that was brought to its height during the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century. Fruits, vegetables, plant and wildlife comprise the subject matter of her work and she employs the sundrenched colors of the Tuscan earth.

Marcia McDade studied in the ancient hill town of Cortona, Italy early in her development as an artist. Her discovery of the local Quatrocento painters, their landscape tradition and the bold timeless colors they employed, left a lasting effect on the way she views the rolling hills and patchwork of land in her Piedmont to Blue Ridge world.

For over twenty years, the Hillsborough Arts Council volunteers have been serving the arts and cultural needs of the Hillsborough community through a diversity of initiatives and services. In addition, the council supports the arts and enhances the community through education and by organizing events that feature local artists for the enjoyment and education of the general public. The Hillsborough Arts Council is the official Hillsborough, NC Arts Council endorsed by The Town of Hillsborough and the NC Arts Council.
