The Real Estate Studio in Charleston, SC, Offers Works by Helen Duckworth

The Real Estate Studio in Charleston, SC, will present the exhibit, Dreams & Reflections, featuring original oils on canvas, mixed- media works on paper and limited edition prints, by award winning artist and poet Helen Duckworth, on view from July 29 through Sept. 6, 2011. A reception will be held on July 29, from 6-9pm. The event is presented by Josh James of Beyond The Gallery.

Duckworth offers the following statement, “This grouping of pictures attempts to tap beneath the surface of things: a face, a relationship, a quiet moment of reflection. The process of thought is suspended, the faces come into focus, hitherto unknown. The touch of a hand, an arm gently enfolding. These gestures are an invitation to come in, to share what we already know, this familiar feeling underneath the veil of thought. It is like the first time our mother held us in her arms.”

Duckworth was born in the north of England and came to the United States in the 1960’s, settling in New York City and studying intermittently at the Art Students League and the School of Visual Arts. She is both a poet and an artist which is apparent in the way she paints, choosing to work from an inner place of imagination, memory and feeling. Mostly painting in oil, she does venture into mixed-media expression but she always returns to the lusciousness of the quality of oil which she has become addicted to, she says.

Duckworth’s work for the last twenty-five years has been a culmination of her feelings about life and her personal journey of love and sorrow and the ever-present question of inner work and relationship to something hidden.

The Real Estate Studio is the downtown office of Dunes Properties, a boutique real estate, vacation rental and property management company serving the Charleston area since 1989. The Real Estate Studio supports Charleston’s thriving art community by highlighting a new artist or organization every six weeks.
