Summer House Gallery in Highlands, NC, Features Works of Edward Rice

Edward Rice will be exhibiting at The Summer House Gallery, Highlands, NC, from Aug. 11 through Sept. 5, 2001. The exhibition will include twelve recent landscapes depicting sites form the Highlands area, as well as current architectural paintings.

The landscape work will feature small, spontaneous paintings executed on site as well as larger works begun on site and completed in the studio. Well-known in the Southeast for his exacting architectural paintings, Rice will be showing his most recent architectural work, Pilot's House (which depicts a Charleston, SC, landmark). Also included are recent paintings depicting buildings from the Highlands area, such as, First Presbyterian Church, Main Street; Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, Main Street; and Satulah Cabin. One of the artist's architectural paintings, The Exchange Building, was recently purchased by the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston.

Rice's work is currently included in the exhibition, Reconstructing Eden: Looking at the Contemporary American Landscape at the Hodges Taylor Gallery, in Charlotte, NC, on view through Aug. 31.

Rice's work is also well represented in Southern museums. His work is included in the collections of: The Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston; The Georgia Museum of Art, Athens, GA; The Greenville County Museum of Art, Greenville, SC; The Morris Museum of Art, Augusta, GA; The Ringling School of Art, Sarasota, FL; The South Carolina State Museum, Columbia, SC; The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA. The artist is currently represented by: Gerald Peters Gallery, Santa Fe, NM; Hampton III Gallery, Greenville, SC; Hodges Taylor Gallery, Charlotte; Mary Pauline Gallery, Augusta, GA; Red Piano Gallery, Hilton Head, SC; and The Summer House Gallery, Highlands, NC.
