EnPro Industries Discovers Treasure Trove of Local Art at Charlotte Art League Gallery in Charlotte, NC

EnPro Industries, a new company spun off from Goodrich, Inc. found treasure at the Charlotte Art League's Spring Into Art Juried Show, annually sponsored by Helms, Mulliss & Wicker. CAL runs a gallery in Charlotte's historic South End, for its 375+ members, all regional artists, who also volunteer to staff it. Though CAL has existed for over 37 years its members sometimes refer to their gallery as the best kept secret in Charlotte, despite the fact it offers more original art by more different artists than any other facility.

Gaines Brown of Gaines Brown Design Inc. introduced EnPro's CEO Ernie Schwab, Human Resources Vice President, Dick Driscoll, and Executive Secretary, Cheryl Allaire to CAL during one of Charlotte's Friday Gallery Crawls. They returned for CAL's Spring Into Art Show and enjoyed the talent and diversity of the show so much that they opened their checkbook. EnPro perused their initial selections in the gallery or on (www.charlotteartists.com) a creation of CAL member Jim Antley. CAL President Timmy Hord and Publicity Chair Terry Thirion arranged for a showing of the selected pieces to an audience of EnPro executives, their families and Design-Planner Jaren Wells of Gensler Architects. EnPro purchased 27 original works totaling $22,760 in the biggest single sale event in CAL's history.

The Charlotte Art League would like to thank EnPro for their support of the artists who live and work in Charlotte's community. As member Schelly Keefer observed, "The sale is a wonderful marriage of EnPro's desire to say something unique about their business and the League's mission of enabling artists to sell original art produced in the Charlotte area. It is refreshing in these days to see a corporation concerned with both the arts and the community."
