The African American Cultural Center in Charlotte, NC, Offers Works by Fellows & Lee Stewart

The African American Cultural Center in Charlotte, NC, is presenting an exhibition of works featuring the talents and expertise embodied in the AACC's Roundtable Professional Artist Fellows. Selected works will feature photographs, collage, sculpture, fiber, three dimensional, and folk art in a multidisciplinary exhibition on view through Aug. 30, 2005.

Vikkii Graham, Community Cultural Programs Director, says, "I am pleased that we are featuring the combined talents of all the current Roundtable Fellows and anticipate a colorful show full of creativity and layers of diverse mediums. They are an eager group with an exceptional creative spark for developing and nurturing support for the Center."

This exhibition will also spotlight the artwork of Lee Stewart in Road to Kamasi, a unique exhibit of manual mode - alternative photographic processing. Stewart was most recently awarded an Emerging Artists award by the Mecklenburg Arts and Science Council for creating a new body of work using alternative photo processes. Stewart is also an AACC Roundtable Fellow. Graham says "Lee Stewart is a seasoned veteran artist whose new art form combines a very exciting perspective using video, photography and painting."

The AACC Roundtable Artist consist of 14 core artists who have engaged in a 10-month educational forum, and designed effective techniques for developing educational programming and teaching skills. The Roundtable, in its 4th year of operation, is an initiative spawned by the Arts and Science Council's Artsteach Program, and in the past was funded in part by the National Endowment of the Arts. It is currently funded by the North Carolina Arts Council. The professional development program augments the AACC's ability to nurture developing artists while using them as workshop and program facilitators, as well as resident programming associates.
