Conn Gallery in Landrum, SC, Features Works by Lee Nesler

The Conn Gallery in Landrum, SC, is presenting an exhibition of etching by Lee Nesler, on view through Sept. 9, 2005.

Nesler lives between Florida and a tiny fishing village called Friendship, ME. His beautiful etchings are rendered using nitric acid that carves into zinc plates. Because the created image is below the surface of the metal plate, an etching is referred to as an intaglio.

Each etching pulled from the plate is hand inked, wiped, and rolled through the etching plate at approximately 1200 lbs. of pressure per square inch. The pressure is required to force the printing paper down into the smallest, etched lines. The paper is then pulled off the plate to reveal the created image. The etching is an original print.

Nesler's etchings depict people, the workers, in Florida and Maine, and the environments they live and work in, both on the water and inland. The detail and realism are breathtaking in his pieces - each one is truly a complete work of art.

After graduating from University of Southern California in 1971, Nesler joined a creative division of Disney, whose purpose was to develop the thematic leisure entertainment venues, such as Disneyland and Walt Disney World in Florida. He stayed with Disney for 18 years, playing many roles, such as model builder, artist prep, manager of WED Show Productions and manager of show quality support.

Nesler then left Disney and started his own consulting business, in Motion Picture and Leisure Industries. A few of Nesler's clients were: Universal Studios Florida; Larson Company, Tucson, AZ; Universal Studios Japan; and Baker Leisure Group, Orlando, FL.

Nesler is an artist with a solid academic and professional background. Come peruse these beautiful etchings, and look into a world of minimalism in work, living, and playing - into humble lives and simple lifestyles.
