Upstate Visual Arts in Greenville, SC, Celebrates an International Exhibit Event on Aug. 19, 2006

Upstate Visual Arts will present a one-day display of an International exchange exhibit entitled, Trading Faces, featuring images from photographers from Belgium and South Carolina on Aug. 19, 2006, starting at 6pm at the UVA Gallery in Greenville, SC.

Trading Faces is a unique juried exhibit produced by Upstate Visual Arts. The exhibit features works of Greenville area photographers, as part of Greenville's commitment to build lasting relationships in culture, history, geography, and people between the Sister Cities of Greenville, SC, and Kortrijk, Belgium. A total of 50 photographs were selected for display through the early summer months at City Hall in Kortrijk. Now the exhibit has returned to Greenville.

According to one of the exhibit's jurors Blake Praytor, "Selecting the images began with the concept of presenting Kortrijk, Belgium with our opinion of what the best combination of ingredients is for communicating the abstract concept of Greenville County, SC, USA." After viewing the entries and making his selections, Praytor described the resulting exhibit as containing "ingredients such as history, nostalgia, faith, time, atmosphere, food, water and anachronism. Trading Faces is the result of the blending of all these."

Upstate Visual Arts exists to enhance the quality of life within the community by elevating the stature of visual art and educating the public to its significance.
