Cabarrus Arts Council Galleries in Concord, NC, Features Works by Marcus Hamilton

The Cabarrus Arts Council Galleries in Concord, NC, is presenting the exhibit, Illustrating: A Career and Drawing Dennis, featuring works by Marcus Hamilton, on view through Aug. 28, 2008.

The exhibition includes a collection of illustrations by Hamilton, who draws the daily Dennis the Menace comic strip; a Saturday Evening Post cover of Bob Hope, a Children's Digest illustration of Reggie Jackson and a Junior Scholastic depiction of Ronald Reagan as well as panels from the comic strip.

A North Carolina native, Hamilton received a degree in commercial art from Atlantic Christian College and worked in the art department of WBTV/Jefferson Pilot Broadcasting while pursuing a freelance career with several national publications. He began drawing the daily Dennis strip in 1994. It is syndicated worldwide in 1,000 newspapers, appears in 48 countries and is translated into 19 languages.

Hamilton will present a free talk about his work on Aug. 14, 2008, at 7pm.

Also showing through Aug. 28 at the Arts Council Galleries will be Raw Talent III, a juried exhibition of works by advanced high school and college students, and Domestications, works by Raw Talent II winner Mollie Krause of Boston University.
