Charleston Crafts in Charleston, SC, Features Works by New Artists

Charleston Crafts in Charleston, SC, is presenting the exhibit, Spotlight on New Artists, featuring works by new member artists in the Charleston Crafts Gallery, on view through Aug. 31, 2008.

The gallery is proud to welcome seven new members with an array of talents. The newest members are Heidi Couch, a jeweler who uses fibers and beads, Daniel Diehl who makes puzzles from wood, Pal and Monika Gooz who use gems and fine metals to make jewelry, John Nickerson, a color photographer that specializes in nature photography, Anna Ruggiero, who is a wood turner, Kenny Teague who makes segmented wooden bowls, and Nancy Wright whose craft is Raku vessels.

Each artist has to present their work to a panel of jurors to be selected to become a member. A strong set of standards have to be met for each medium in order to be invited into the gallery so it is considered an honor to be a member. All members are South Carolina residents and most reside in the Lowcountry. This group of new members includes a few different types of crafts that are not currently in the gallery as well as others that have a different "twist" to their technique.

The gallery maintains a wide variety of arts and is always changing.
