Beaufort, SC, Library Shows Work of Sharon DeAlexandris

Sharon DeAlexandris will have 15 of her watercolors on display at the Art Among the Books Gallery on the second floor of the library in Beaufort, SC, from Sept. 7 - Oct. 10. The series of paintings for the show were done on location and as a result of recent rips to Tuscany, Saba, Belize and Vieques, Puerto Rico.

Sharon DeAlexandris has worked most of her life as a free lance artist and art teacher in Michigan. She has achieved a number of personal goals with her students and their work and found a real sense of joy to show children that they can be creative, expressive and imaginative through art. When DeAlexandris left teaching she focused primarily on watercolor painting because of the freedom the medium brings to her ideas. She states, "It allows me to experiment with many different techniques and has all the contrasts of precise and blurry, textural and out of focus, watery and intense color. The love of painting for me comes from generating an idea and letting it evolve. The continuing challenge has kept me working, exhibiting, and traveling for the love of art."

DeAlexandris graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a BAE - undergraduate focus: painting. She has graduate hours in studio art and art history from the University of Michigan, Center of Creative Studies and Eastern Michigan University. She was represented by The Atrium Gallery of Northville, MI, 1986-1997 and Bay Street Gallery of Northport, MI, 1988-1997.

DeAlexandris has participated in juried art shows from1985 to 2000 annually including the Visual Arts Association of Livonia, Livonia Arts Commission Exhibits at City Hall, Farmington Invitational Portrait Show, First Congregational Show of Birmingham, Sharing the Gift Show of Northville, (all in MI) and the Beaufort Art Association Spring Show 1999-2000. She is a member of the Northville City Arts Commission and acted as an officer for 10 years, the Michigan Watercolor Society, the South Carolina Watercolor Society and the Beaufort Art Association.

DeAlexandris and her family were residents of Northville, MI for 28 years and moved to Beaufort in 1997. She is now working out of her studio at Brays Island.
