Works by Sue Painter Featured at Hendersonville, NC, Galleries

Sue Painter has been named Artist of the Month for September by Birds of a Feather and Red Door Art Galleries, located in historic downtown Hendersonville, NC.

The recently-opened galleries are a cooperative venture by a number of local artists who display their original art works in spacious, well-lit studios. The galleries bring before the public a large collection of artistic creations in a multitude of styles and media: oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, pastels, photography, sculpture, pottery, weavings and reclaimed treasures.

Painter will exhibit oil paintings in the galleries main display space. Her work vibrates with energetic brush strokes, rich colors and powerful composition. Her love of nature and her passion for creating art are amply demonstrated in her expertly rendered paintings.

Painter interprets familiar images with dramatic design and she applies luminous, radiant color with subtlety and style. A landscape entitled The Long Road Home glows in a symphony of golds, dusky blues and greens. A winding road leads to a farmhouse framed by distant mountains and a deep, dark blue sky. The painting Time for Spring evokes a vivid sensation of late winter cold. The dark trunk of an old tree stands silhouetted against the grey-green still-snowy landscape, ice beside the lake's frigid water.

Painter creates works of highly original content executed with skill and imagination. Her paintings evoke questions with answers that she leaves to the viewers' imagination.

Painter is a member of the Arts League of Henderson County and of the National Women in the Arts of Washington, DC. She is a dedicated and prolific artist who works fulltime in her home studio. Her work has received numerous awards, most notably Merit Award in the All Souls Cathedral Art Show in Asheville, NC, two First Place Awards in the Silver Arts Show of Hendersonville, and Best of Show in the Transylvania County Art and Fine Crafts Show at Brevard College, Brevard, NC.
