Storm Series Exhibit at Saul Alexander Gallery in Charleston, SC

The Saul Alexander Gallery at the Charleston County Library's Main Location, in downtown Charleston, SC, will present a mixed media exhibition entitled Storm Series -the Hugo Plates by Katherine Muschick Schneider on view Sept. 1 - 30. The exhibit will feature unique images made from zinc etching plates. The large zinc plates used to create the original etchings in the Storm Series are a direct result of storm water damage during and after Hurricane Hugo in 1989. The plates remained in this condition at the College of Charleston Book Store until 1998. The artist purchased the plates planning to salvage usable space from them. Before cutting off the damaged portion of the plates, she decided to ink and print them. All 9 plates revealed images of breaking waves. This is a very unusual set of circumstances, and has produced a profoundly interesting series of etchings.

The exhibit will include 3 of the original zinc etching plates, etchings, and mixed media works. The public will be invited to record their thoughts and feelings in an interactive journal in the gallery.

Schneider is a painter, sculptor, and printmaker with over 30 years of experience. Her oils, watercolors, and original prints are in public, private, and corporate collections in the United States, Mexico, and Germany.
