Work by Robert Frank at Shain Fine Art in Charlotte, NC

Shain Fine Art in Charlotte, NC, is presenting an exhibition of contemporary landscapes by Robert Frank, PSA, PSWC and mixed media works by Kim Schuessler. The works will be on view through Oct., 2000.

Frank has a singularly unique vision of artistic expression - vibrant, colorful and defined by light. One of America's most highly respected artists, Frank's growing body of highly interpretive work has been avidly collected nationally and has placed him at the vanguard of contemporary impressionistic painters.

When Frank selected pastels for his area of artistic expression their versatility was little known and the medium was seldom used. Inspired by this unstructured environment, he developed his own distinctive technique, a luminous world of impressionistic and imaginative style - still interpretable as reality.

When talking about the medium of pastel, Frank states, "Since pastels are pigments in their purest form, the control of light in the use of pastels is more critical and acute than in any other medium".

Frank's work is actively studied and recognized as the benchmark style for contemporary American pastellists to follow. His critically acclaimed work is consistently used in art books, school books, and magazine articles, as leading examples of outstanding contemporary pastel art.

Frank has been referred to as a premier pastel landscape artist in the art world today. He is a member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA), Pastel Society of the West Coast (PSWC), and is listed in Who's Who in American Art.

Frank's works can be found in corporate collections throughout the country including Sears Corporation, Rubbermaid, and Disney Corporation. One of the works in this exhibition will be, "Mississippi Mud", a work that has earned $9,000 in award money in juried competitions. This is the first time the work has been available to the public.

Kim Schuessler's very popular work is a vision of a simpler, brighter, world that exists in our imagination. Her acrylic painted masonite boxes, approximately two to three inches deep, range from gentle and soft images to bold, bright colors.
