Randy Shull & Tim Turner at Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC

Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, announces a two-person exhibit for artists Randy Shull and Tim Turner on view Sept. 2 - 23. Hand-crafted studio furniture along with recent sculptures by Randy Shull and recent abstract paintings by Tim Turner will be featured in the South Gallery.

Randy Shull

With a contrasting palette of intense, bright colors, Randy Shull breathes life into his wooden creations while simultaneously breaking down the barrier between furniture and sculpture. He uses his technical prowess combined with a creative sense of humor to systematically transform his audience from mere viewers into eager participants.

Tim Turner

Tim Turner's non-objective body of work uses bold, rich colors along with linear and geometric shapes to invoke pure emotions from his viewers. He pushes the relationships between form, color, and texture to subconsciously connect with the inner selves of his audience. His loosely structured compositions take over large canvases and transfigure them into powerful, thought provoking works of art.

Tim Turner, born in Roxboro, NC, now lives and works in Crossnore, NC. He attended Appalachian State University. He has exhibited in many one-person and group exhibits in the southeastern United States. Among these are exhibits at Plum Nelly in Chattanooga, TN (2000); Scatzo Gallery in Belleair Bluffs, FL (1999); The Art Cellar, Banner Elk, NC (1999); Plantation Gallery, Key West, FL (1998); and Gallery WDO in Charlotte, NC (1997). Aside from these exhibitions, his works can also be found in many private collections in Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

Artist Randy Shull, born and raised in Illinois, now resides in Asheville, NC. He has exhibited throughout the world including exhibits at The National Craft Museum of Finland, Jyzasklya, Finland (1999); John Elder Gallery, New York, NY (1998); Mobile Museum of Art, Mobile, AL (1998); Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC (1997); and the Leonora Vega Gallery in San Juan, Puerto Rico (1993), to name a few. Randy Shull's works are also featured in the permanent collections of the American Craft Museum, New York, NY; Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, NY; High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA; JB Speed Art Museum, Louisville, KY; and the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte, NC. Private collections include his art in Japan, Venezuela, Columbia, Germany, and Australia.

This will be the first feature exhibit at Somerhill Gallery for both artists, although they each have exhibited works here in the past.
