McCord and Browne to Exhibit at The Summer House Gallery in Highlands, NC

David McCord and Drennen Browne will be on exhibit at The Summer House Gallery, Highlands NC. Photography by David McCord featuring black & white and color photography of the Southwestern region of NC will be exhibited through Sept. 20 and Drennen Browne's works will be on view from Sept. 22 through Oct. 11.

David McCord's photographic career began with years of training in the freehand arts. He later decided to make the transition to photography and graduated from the Southeastern Center for Photographic Studies at Dayton Beach, FL. Over the past eighteen years, McCord has built and managed a successful commercial and architectural photographic business.

During this time, McCord also continued developing and expanding his personal portfolio of landscape images photographed mostly in the mountains of western NC. The unique quality and beauty of these images were first recognized by his commercial and architectural clients. They strongly encouraged him to devote more of his talents to this work. Subsequently, about eight years ago he began successfully showing these images. His work is presently included in several private collections.

For over fifty years McCord's family has owned a mountain retreat in the Highlands, NC, area which has provided him with both motive and opportunity to nurture and produce his landscapes. These images range in accessibility from along the roadside overlooks to remote exposed locations, which can only be reached through technical climbing ability and extreme physical effort. Having spent much of his life in the western Carolina mountains, they continue to be one of his favorite subjects. McCord said, "Photographing in these southern Appalachians is often frustrating, although when the weather, the light, and the landscape work in concert the scenes are truly incomparable."

Drennen Browne (b.1943, West Palm Beach, FL) is an illustrator, presently residing in Atlanta, GA. He received his BFA from the University of Florida and his MFA from Florida State University. After illustrating and designing over twenty science education textbooks Browne taught at Florida State University and Memphis State University before moving to Atlanta, GA in 1978. In Atlanta he has worked as an art director, designer, illustrator, and creative director with many agencies and design studios, winning many major awards and exhibitions.

Browne terms his work as "visual journal keeping", using historically based calligraphy and imagery from the natural world to act as metaphors for an exploration of beauty, transcendence and spiritual growth, and discovery in our lives. His work is exhibited in Virginia, North & South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee. A book, Paths Taken, is currently under development.
