Christa Faut Gallery in Cornelius, NC, Features Works by Denise Lisiecki

The Christa Faut Gallery in Cornelius, NC, will present an exhibition entitled, Extinguishing The Last Century, featuring watercolor paintings by Denise Lisiecki, from Sept. 7 through October 10, 2001.

Lisiecki uses the evocative power of objects to paint expressive still lifes. She chooses objects and colors that have some meaning not to her alone, but have symbolic significance. She then arranges these items according to their function, age, shape, color and size. They might all relate to a story or a culture. Lisiecki applies watercolor in distinct layers with each color wash being allowed to dry before the next is applied. "Painting with watercolor can be compared to laying sheets of colored cellophane on a light box. Each new color combines with those underneath and blocks a little more of the light within the box," says Lisiecki.

Lisiecki received her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts from Miami University in 1973 and Master of Arts Degree from the State University of New York in Oswego in 1975. Her paintings have been widely exhibited and collected. Her work can be found in many museum collections. Lisiecki is the chairperson of the two dimensional art department at Kalamazoo Institute of Art.
