Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, Presents Works by Sally Bowen Prange

Gallery C in Raleigh, NC, is proud to present Society, featuring new works by Sally Bowen Prange through Oct. 23, 2001. This two part exhibition includes new ceramic vessels and wall pieces built partially on the wheel and partially by hand and including the luster finishes, barnacle glazes, and torn edges for which Prange is known world-wide. Also on display will be the premiere of her newest installation piece, entitled Society. The installation will use the entire Solo Gallery to create an environment reminiscent of the natural landscape. The viewer will walk on a boardwalk amongst groupings of over 125 ceramic forms, both on the floor and walls. These forms which take much of their inspiration from river rock, lull the viewer into a sense of quiet and peace and allow for introspection and a reinterpretation of our vision of the natural world..

Sally Bowen Prange has been working with clay for 53 years and is world-renowned as a ceramic artist. She has works in the permanent collections of the National Collection of American Art at The Smithsonian, The Victoria & Albert Museum in London, The North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, The San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose, CA, The Ackland Art Museum, Chapel Hill, NC, the museums of art at Pennsylvania State University, The University of Michigan, North Carolina State, and many more. Prange is not only widely collected but looked to by younger ceramicists as a teacher and mentor. Her signature techniques have been featured in numerous books and magazine articles and, as this exhibition demonstrates so well, she continues to push the boundaries of her medium.
