Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, Presents Sculpture by Dean Leary, Scott Sides and Paris Alexander

Somerhill Gallery in Chapel Hill, NC, is featuring an exhibition entitled, All Sculpture, through Sept. 21, featuring works by Dean Leary, Scott Sides and Paris Alexander.

Dean Leary

Dean Leary has participated in numerous group exhibits at Somerhill Gallery. For this exhibit, the artist is presenting new abstract stone sculpture in a variety of media including marble and black India granite. These sensuous and graceful carvings are reminiscent of seaforms, such as water-worn shells or tree limbs, as well as other natural objects that have capture the artist's imagination. Leary grew up on the NC coast where he developed an interest in the fluidity of line and sea-washed forms so prevalent in his work.

Scott Sides

This will be the first feature exhibition for Boone, NC, artist Scott Sides and Raleigh, NC, sculptor Paris Alexander, although both artists have been represented by Somerhill for a few years.

Paris Alexander

Both Sides and Alexander's work reflect their interest in the human figure. Alexander follows a classic sensibility of the Greek and Romans sculpting in Italian marble while Sides' work abstracts the human form in stainless steel, bronze as well as marble.

Dean Leary received his MFA from East Carolina University. His work can be found in the collections of RJ Reynolds Corporate Headquarters in Winston-Salem, NC; the NC Telecom Corporation in Raleigh, NC; Edward Weck and Company, Raleigh, NC; Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem, NC; Duke Power, Raleigh, NC; and Saint Andrews College in Laurinburg, NC.

Gallery director Joseph Rowand recently commented, "This is Somerhill's first three-person sculpture exhibit and it promises artistic strength and diversity by three strong artists that I am proud to represent."

All three sculptors currently reside in NC.
