Artspace in Raleigh, NC, Presents an Exhibition by Three NC Photographers

Artspace in Raleigh, NC, is featuring an exhibition entitled, Photos In Flux, featuring the works of Alex Maness, Peter Schroth and Morgan Woolverton. The exhibition located in Gallery 2 at Artspace will be on view through Oct. 5, 2002.

Photos In Flux features the work of these three North Carolina photographers. Each artist builds upon the technical aspects of photography, while at the same time blurring the traditional boundaries.

Alex Maness, a graduate from Syracuse University College of Visual and Performing Arts, uses pinhole cameras to capture images on 4" x 5" Polaroid film. Maness utilizes digital techniques to add blocks of color to the original image. He will be presenting these images, printed out in large format onto canvas.

Peter Schroth notes that "photography preserves moments." Schroth creates moments, inventing a scene and environment by employing objects, which he then manipulates with paint and lighting. The interaction between the objects, lighting, color, and setting is composed and preserved photographically and then discarded, to ensure that what was captured was indeed a passing moment.

Morgan Woolverton earned a BFA from Hampshire College in Amherst, MA, and an MFA from University of North Carolina Greensboro. Woolverton will be exhibiting two series. The first is a triptych of standard 35mm negatives printed as cibachromes. The series utilizes the technique of sandwiching slides together to create a photo collage. The second series of work on display combines traditional printmaking, collage and digital photography, incorporating photography into a larger multi-media exploration.

Artspace is located in Historic City Market in Raleigh at the corner of Blount St. at Davie St. Artspace is fully handicap accessible to persons with disabilities. Needs will be accommodated upon request. Artspace is a private, non-profit organization funded by the City of Raleigh, based on recommendations of the Raleigh Arts Commission, by the North Carolina Arts Council, the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County and by individuals, businesses, and corporations.
