Calhoun Street Art Gallery in Bluffton, SC, Features Group Exhibit

The Calhoun Street Art Gallery in Bluffton, SC, is offering the exhibition, A Midsummer Medley, featuring new works by the gallery's core of artists. The exhibition which will be on view through Oct. 5, 2002, and is hoped will add spark to the summer doldrums.

Each of the participating artists in this cooperative gallery has brought in new work for this exhibition. The newest member of the coop, Betsy Chaffin, adds a new dimension to the collection. Her multiple-image collages are unique and help to round out the gallery's offerings.

Guido Petruzzi's latest painting, Calhoun Street Corner, shows the serenity of a summer's day at the corner of Calhoun and Lawrence Streets in Bluffton, punctuated by the slow progress of two bicycles as the only activity on a hot afternoon.

Ann White has added hand-built candlesticks that are majolica decorated and a sugar bowl and creamer, decorated with oxides and slips.

Irene K. Williamson's abstract collage, Summer Rain, provides a bit of cool refreshment in the heat of summer, and a kite-flying sea gull on the beach in a collage titled: "Happiness Is adds a spark of whimsy. Be sure to see the other beach and marsh oriented scenes throughout the gallery that convey the Lowcountry at mid-summer, like Doris Shay's oil, "Across the Lagoon.

Bringing us the fruits of summer, Lynn Parrott's Pearscape and A Pretty Pair presents a variety of pears at the peak of perfection. To add a touch of nostalgia, Ellen Huey is showing, The Barn in Summer, part of an ongoing series of country scenes "to remind us of all that is serene and simple", she says.

A Midsummer Medley is a great, cool escape from the dog days of summer. The artworks include paintings in all mediums: watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels; collages, photography, drawings, ceramics and woodturnings. One of the gallery artists is always on hand to show you through the collection and answer your questions.

Artists participating in the exhibition are: Susan Citron, Betsy Chaffin, John Diamond, Vickie Bailey Ebbers, Robert Highsmith, Ellen Huey, Louanne LaRoche, Laurie McIntosh, Lynn Parrott, Guido Petruzzi, Doris Shay, Ann White, Irene K. Williamson and Martha Worthy.
