Live Oak Emporium Southern Artisan Center in Beaufort, SC, Presents Works by Bobbi Adams

The Live Oak Emporium Southern Artisan Center in Beaufort, SC, will present an exhibition of works of handmade paper by Bobbi Adams entitled, The Creation Series, from Sept. 21 through Nov. 2, 2002.

In Bishopville, SC, Adams tends her garden with care. The garden is her muse. The native plants she tends there proffer twigs, petals and leaves, which in turn are crafted into the colors and textures of handmade papers.

Adams received a degree in Zoology from Wheaton College in 1970 and immediately pursued her studies in the field of art. She has studied with the Art Students League of New York, the National Academy of Design and the International Program of New York University, Venice, Italy from which she received her Masters Degree.

Adams' talents include painting and handmade paper collage. Her artistic pursuits have been recognized and showcased in many solo and group exhibitions. Several South Carolina public collections include her works, as does the Municipal Museum in Brescia, Italy. She has been a South Carolina Artist-in-Residence for 21 years, inspiring students all across the state. Her latest achievement in the art field has been through an invitation to exhibit her handmade paper collage in the Biennale Internazionale Dell Arte in Florence, Italy. Participation in the Biennale, one of the most prestigious contemporary art exhibits in the world, is by nomination only. This 4th Edition of the exhibit can be seen at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence Dec. 6-14, 2003.

Over the past 30 years, Adams work has evolved into an extraordinary merger of art and organics. With reverence and wonder she expresses relationship with Mother Earth, and the cycle of bearing, nurturing and harvest. Cutting, drying, separating and transforming the raw materials, she extracts vivid natural colorings. Rather than presenting the dried, preserved feeling one might presuppose, the collages vibrate with light and energy. Fluid images of earth, sky, and water appear to dominate her current Creation Series of handmade paper collage.

Forty percent of the profits from the Artisan Center benefit Citizens Opposed to Domestic Abuse (CODA), the only safe shelter for battered women and children in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties in SC.
