McCormick Arts Council in McCormick, SC, Features Works by Michel McNinch

The McCormick Arts Council in McCormick, SC, proudly announces the exhibition of works by SC artist Michel McNinch for their next art exhibition entitled Recent Works from Sept. 5-30, 2002.

McNinch, a native of SC and graduate of the University of SC, has been selected by the South Carolina Arts Commission to serve as artist-in-residence for the Caring Colors program at Oakleaf Village of Lexington, SC. Primarily a portraitist working by commission she also enjoys portraying the wide diversity of subject matter found in the SC environment. "I especially enjoy painting from nature" she says, "which includes painting people in their natural environment".

McNinch's artwork has been exhibited in numerous juried competitions, including the Hilton Head National Juried Exhibition and the SC Watercolor Society's 2001 Traveling Exhibition, where she received the Arthur State Bank Merit Award. Most recently, she received the "Best in Show" award in Spartanburg County Museum of Art's Annual Hub City Exhibition and Best in Show at the Belton Annual Stanpipe exhibition. Her work appears in corporate and private collections along the eastern seaboard from Maine to Florida, in Germany, and in the Virgin Islands.

McNinch teaches art to at-risk students at the Alternative Academy of Lexington District Five and to adults at the Continuing Education Department of Midlands Technical College. She recently addressed the Crooked Creek Art League on the importance of community support of art education. "Teaching children to develop their creativity and communication skills will enable them to explore their potential and participate successfully in society," she says.
