September Issue 2002

Moring Arts Center in Asheboro, NC, Features Motorcycle Exhibit

On Sept. 2, the doors of the Main Gallery of the Moring Arts Center in Asheboro, NC, will open onto a spectacle entirely composed of motorcycle related items. There will be: Motorcycle Poetry by John Ferree, Motorcycle Art by senior students at Asheboro High School, Randleman High School, Trinity High School and Southwestern Randolph High School; new, sleek, and beautiful or old, stylish and classic Motorcycles provided by Cox's Harley Davidson, the American Classic Motorcycle Museum, the Cycle Center. Plus, if we hold our mouths right, a full size ceramic Motorcycle made by Ray Gross. The show will be on view through Sept. 26, 2002.

Through the courtesy of the City of Asheboro, Sunset Avenue will be blocked off and motorcyclists from within an hour's ride will be gathering to show off their machines and meet friends. Food will be available on site from the Concerned Bikers Association and from Christians United Outreach Center. All our downtown restaurants - Hops, Bailey's, Enrique's, and Resch's Deli II - will be open as well.

We invite motorcyclists, non-motorcyclists, and all the members of the Randolph County family visit the gallery throughout the month and to attend the street meeting on Sept. 17, when our guest of honor, poet John Ferree will be returning from a cross-country Gold Wing journey by then. All along the way, he will be phoning in road-reportage back to Asheboro which we hope to hear on WKXR (1260 AM). When Ferree arrives on Sunset Avenue he will make his way through the crowd to Bicentennial Park for an in-person report from the backroads and a poetry reading from his book "Road Dreaming. Copies of the book will be available for sale with all proceeds going to the Victory Junction Gang. A jug to receive VJG donations will be available.

For further information check our NC Institutional Gallery listings or call the center at 336/629-0399.
