Spartanburg County Museum of Art to Sponsor 36th Annual Sidewalk Art Show on the Fence at Converse College!

The Spartanburg County Museum of Art in Spartanburg, SC, will sponsor the 36th Annual Sidewalk Art Show, on Sept. 21 from 10am-3pm, around the fence at Converse College. This event is open to the public with no admission charge. In addition to the juried art show; food, vendors, artist demonstrations, and children's activities will be offered. Over $7,000 in prizes will be awarded in student (K-12), Amateur, and Professional categories in the following media: Textile art, Painting and Color Pastels, Drawing and Graphics, Photography, Open media, Sculpture, and Ceramics. The two top prizes are the $2,000 Burwell Best in Show Award and the $1 ,000 Textile Award for Fiber Arts. The total money awards for the show is $10,000. An awards ceremony will be held at 3pm.

Artist's registration will be held on the day of the show between 8-10am at the Fairview St. parking lot of Converse College on East Main St. Registration fees are: Professional $25, Amateur $20, and Student, no entry fee charged. Professional and Amateurs may enter four pieces if they are current members of The Spartanburg Museum of Art, or join our membership that day. They also will receive a 10% discount on the entry fee.Non-members can submit up to 2 works. Students may enter two pieces free of charge.

Romita Raya,curator of the Mark and Debra Callaway Dept. of Prints and Drawings at the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia, will judge our Professional category at this year's Sidewalk Art Show. Both the amateur and student category judges have yet to be announced.

Sidewalk Art Show patrons may purchase and enjoy delicious food, fine coffee drinks, and other refreshments provided by Java Jive and Deliteful Bitefuls. There will also be a variety of artists demonstrating, as well as selling their one-of-a-kind crafts including: Stained Glass by Sam Hodge; Wheel Thrown Pottery by Kelly McCullough and painting and prints from many local and regional artists. The Converse College Art Club will feature a face painting booth. A variety of children's art activities, including 15 minute art lessons will be provided at no charge by Museum of Art School instructors and local artists. Both children and adults can participate in our Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest featuring prizes from The Museum's Gift Shop.

Our Family Entertainment Stage will feature continuous performances from 10am-3pm

The Sidewalk Art Show is a beloved Spartanburg tradition. Bring your family and enjoy a great day with the arts. In case of rain, the show will be held at The Arts Center, 385 5. Spring St.

Restrooms for the public will be available in Main Hall and Twichell Auditorium on the Converse Campus. Free parking will also be provided by Converse in the Twichell lot. Due to the closure of North Fairview Ave. for the art show, drivers must enter the lot on Avant St.
