Brookgreen Gardens in Pawleys Island, SC, Offers Annual Sculpture Exhibition

Brookgreen Gardens, America's oldest public sculpture garden, in Pawleys Island, SC, will host the 70th Annual Awards Exhibit of the National Sculpture Society through Oct. 26, 2003. Fifty-two of America's foremost sculptors have been chosen to display their figurative artwork in the exhibition which will then travel to the National Sculpture Society at the Park Avenue Atrium in New York City, where it will reside from Nov. 3 - Feb. 2004.

The NSS juried exhibition will offer over ten thousand dollars in prizes and awards in fifteen categories. The three members of the Jury of Selection, all Fellows of the NSS, were Jane Armstrong of Manchester, VT, Bunny Adelman of Tenafly, NJ, and John Svenson of California.

Ten different media types will be included in the exhibition, from time-honored marble and bronze to mahogany and cement.

The exhibition includes artwork by Frank Gaylord, sculptor of the Korean War Veterans Memorial; Robert Landry, sculptor of the World Memorial Museum centerpiece; and Ed Dwight, creator of the first Bi-National Monument.

Brookgreen Gardens contain the Anna and Archer Huntington Sculpture Garden, where more than 550 works of American sculpture are displayed throughout one of the greatest public gardens in America. In addition, the property includes the Lowcountry History and Wildlife Preserve. Brookgreen Gardens is one of only 12 institutions in the country accredited by the American Association of Museums, the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, and the American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboretum.
