September Issue 2005

Blowing Rock Frameworks and Gallery in Blowing Rock, NC, Offers Exhibit for BRAHM

The hills come alive with the arts this September when the local artists of the High Country once again are celebrated for their creativity and talent. The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum has announced that the second annual Art Celebration! 2005 will open on Sept. 3, 2005, at the Blowing Rock Frameworks and Gallery in Blowing Rock, NC. After a two-week long show, each piece in the exhibit will be auctioned on Sept. 18, 2005, at Blowing Rock's American Legion Hall.

Proceeds from the auction will go to support the construction of the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum (BRAHM), which will be located on Chestnut Street at Main, as well the artists themselves.

"We had such an incredible response last year to Art Celebration! 2004 that we wanted to follow up with a similar event this year," said Sue Glenn, BRAHM trustee, who again is serving as the event chairperson. "It was such a success for everyone our local artists, the community, local businesses, and, of course, BRAHM as it is our primary fundraising event for the year."

The 2005 exhibit will feature some of the area's finest artists working in oils, watercolor, acrylics, pastels, marble, clay and glass. Some artists are returning from last year's exhibit Warren Dennis, Pat Pilkington, Wayne Trapp and Nancy Brittelle, among others; and some are appearing in this show for the first time Joana Wardell, Roland Hamner and Mary Ann Prack.

A full-color art catalogue for the exhibit will be produced with a profile of each artist featured alongside their artwork. Individuals sponsoring this coffee table catalogue will be noted in the book, as will BRAHM members at the "Sustaining" level who have contributed $1,000 annually to the organization. Those interested in becoming a catalogue sponsor may do so by sending $100 to BRAHM, PO Box 828, Blowing Rock, NC, 28605.

"We must thank Tim Miller, owner of Blowing Rock Frameworks and Gallery, as well as his staff, for agreeing to host Art Celebration! 2005 again this year," Glenn said. "The gallery location and their expertise play a significant role in the success of the event and we are very appreciative of their participation and hospitality."

Art Celebration! 2005 also will feature an educational component with outreach and programs for the Watauga County Elementary Schools.

"We are very mindful that we are building our audience of the future by reaching out to schoolchildren now and developing their love of art," Glenn said. "An important part of our museum will be education and outreach, so we try to include that aspect in all of our event planning."

Artists participating in the auction include: Egidio Antonaccio, Kevin Beck, Joan Stiles Bell, David Birmingham, Irmaly Brackin, Jak Brewer, Pamela H. Brewer, Nancy Brittelle, Bill Brown, Jr., Chrissie Callejas, Carolita Cantrell, Noyes Capehart Long, Ken Carder, Toni Carlton, Bob Clark, Chris Clark, Herb Cohen, Rex Deaton, Warren Dennis, Tim Ford, José Fumero, Martha Gimlin, Tony Griffin, Tom Gruber, Gail Haley, Alexander Hallmark, Roland Hamner, D.
