Charleston Art and Portraits in Charleston, SC, Offers Group Show

Charleston Art and Portraits in Charleston, SC, is pleased to present the exhibit, REUNION, on view from Sept. 15 through Nov. 15, 2005. "This very special exhibition is in celebration of the gallery's third anniversary in November," says Cecile Langham Cothran, owner of the gallery and portrait artist. The group show will include works by all of the artists currently represented by the gallery as well as some of our former colleagues.

Among those participating will be local award winning oil painter Sandra J. Booker, known primarily for her representational, impressionistic oil landscapes of the lowcountry.

Beverly M. Brunswig, whose intricate paper sculptures of subjects from nature amaze the viewer with their delicacy and precision. Also a teacher, her degree is in fine arts and art education.

T.M. Tremaine's limited edition photographs span a variety of subjects. For this exhibit he will be showing pieces from his latest African trip. The emphasis of the photos from this trip is more on the people of Africa.

Janet Onofrey, plein air painter of Fort Lauderdale, FL, paints in watercolor and in oils. She has work hanging at Florida's Cornell Museum, where she took first place in the fine art category at the 2004 All Florida Fine Art Exhibition.

Peggy Bischoff, master of the watercolor flower is excellent at the depiction of botanical subjects. A master flower show judge and designer, her florals are "correct", as well as pleasing to the eye.

Kelly Green's limited edition macro photography of flowers has such impact and finesse that viewers frequently are perplexed as to the media, asking if the works are paintings. "Her latest images have really pushed the envelope in terms of design and palette," says Cothran.

Eileen Blyth of Columbia, SC, a Charleston native, studied under William Halsey and John Michel while obtaining her BA in Studio Art at the College of Charleston. She also did graduate work in graphic design at The University of SC, and has been an illustrator, video animator and web designer. "Her non- representational work is crisp, clean and sharp its impact; but it's also thought provoking and fun!" says Cothran.

Sandra Tedesco's impressionistic oils, mostly on linen, are elegant with strong images and a rich palette. "and her brushwork is worth studying," says Cothran. Tedesco is another award winning artist, who lives on Kiawah Island, SC, with many of her paintings depicting the marshes and beaches.

Martha Bryce Heffron's oils are dramatic and exciting. "She splits her time between Charleston and the Caribbean, and her palette reflects that," says Cothran, "I will enjoy seeing her work in the gallery again."

Don Boyd's popular style of oil painting has developed over years of work and out of a degree in architectural technology. "Don's style reflects his eye for the structure of things - vivid colors, clear contrasts and textures," says Cothran. "People love his work. He paints subjects we can all relate to and that we would like to live with." His work has garnered awards all over the southeast - the latest at the North Charleston Arts Festival and the Blessing of the Fleet in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Kelly Garst of Seattle, WA, brings a level of sophistication to our REUNION show that will be recognized by those well schooled in art. She has studied at art schools in Seattle, Atlanta and London. One of her Cirque du Soleil series will hang in this exhibit.
