Arts Center of Coastal Carolina on Hilton Head Island, SC, Features HH Art League Annual Members Show

The Hilton Head Art League is pleased to present its annual showing of artwork by its members at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina in Shelter Cove on Hilton Head Island, SC, from Sept. 6 through Oct. 1, 2005. More than 100 artists' works will be on display and for sale.

Jo Dye Tom Ratliffe

The artists save their best work for this show and are always excited to be included. Since space is limited, they vie for the opportunity to show their work in this wonderful, state-of-the-art gallery.

Mary Jane Martin

All media will be represented: oils, pastels, watercolors, sculpture, acrylics, mixed media, photography, and collages. The Member Show showcases the fine work of our local artists. Many of the familiar names will be there, as will a number of new members, whose work demands to be seen. Since all of the work is for sale, this is the opportunity to purchase fine works of art done by artists who call Hilton Head home. The subject matter is always as varied as the mediums - prices, too.

Not only are paintings and sculptures included in the show, but woodturnings, hand-woven baskets, fabric/fiber designs, and ceramics as well.

To add a little excitement to this year's show, two very special pieces will be available for a silent auction. One is a collage by Irene K. Williamson, known as the Alchemist. During her show this year, she designed a collage made from materials that visitors to the gallery provided. The work is aptly titled Anticipation, since Williamson did not know what people would bring in. There were scraps of paper, ribbons, buttons and other odd items. Williamson donated the piece to the Art League which is now offering it via the silent auction to raise funds for Art League programs. The second item is a sculpture by Sheri Farbstein which was also donated to the League.

For a look at some of the finest art on the island, be sure to check out the offerings at the Annual Members Show, and be the first one on your block to bring home a truly original piece of art by one of our fantastic local artists. Supporting local artists adds dimension and beauty to our arts and our island.

The Hilton Head Art League is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting the visual arts in the community and increasing the art skills of its members. Through workshops, art classes, scholarships and cooperative community events, the League is the backbone of the arts community on the island.
