Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, Features Works by Kathleen Nobles

Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC, is featuring the artwork of Kathleen Nobles in a show titled, Potpourri, on view through Sept. 30, 2005.

According to the artist it includes a range of her recent works in oil and acrylics on canvas. Says Nobles, "When I paint it is an emotional experience for me, and my goal is interpretation, not imitation."

Nobles is known for her use of bold, vivid colors. She often uses a glazing technique, which takes on a fantasy of color and drama that gives her art a distinctive energy and vibrancy. The Wilmington, NC, artist earned her bachelor's degree in Art and Education at Raleigh's Meredith College. Further studies include the John Cox Workshop in Oriental, NC, and the LaRomita School of Art in Terni, Italy. Nobles has taught gifted children at the Meredith College summer program, and therapeutic art for Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh.

Today Nobles specializes in acrylic and oil paintings. Her solo shows have included WHQR, St. John's Museum of Art, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and Pitzer's Gallery in Carmel, CA. The Sunset River Marketplace show includes a number of landscapes, florals and beach
paintings.

Ginny Lassiter, owner and director of Sunset River Marketplace says, "I always look forward to Kathleen's new work. Her use of strong color and contrast brings an unusual vibrancy to her paintings."

Sunset River Marketplace has, since opening in 2002, become an important artistic center for Brunswick County. In its 10,000 square-foot space, many local and regional artists working in a wide range of media are represented. The facility also offers custom, on-site framing as well as art classes and
workshops, including after-school and summer programs for children.
