modern eye gallery in Charlotte, NC, Offers Four Views of Abstract Expression

modern eye gallery in Charlotte, NC, presents 4 Painters x 4 Perspectives, a group show celebrating the diversity of abstract expression in painting by four gallery artists. The exhibit features the work of David Freeman, James Leonard, David Novak, and Bob Rankin. The show will run from Sept. 1 through Oct. 21, 2006.

The goal of this exhibit is to highlight the different interpretations of the non-objective world. Each artist in the show has chosen or created a unique vernacular in which to express the abstract, both visually and stylistically. Color, form, and light combine in styles ranging from the geometric to the expressionistic. Painting is the medium of choice of the artists. The desire to create emotion within the viewer through non-representational expression is the unifying element among the artists.

David Freeman

David Freeman expresses himself through energy-filled expressions of color and light. His paintings are like color storms that envelop the viewer, sometimes dark yet uplifting.

James Leonard

The work of James Leonard is built on a combination of his keen interest in the ancient and the modern arts. In this body of work, his painting style of pulling layer upon layer of paint in organic and primary color ranges is exemplified.

David Novak

David Novak brings a fresh approach to visual geometry in his work. More narrative than purely geometric, his work reflects movement and stillness all in one. The colors are bright and audacious while the imagery is subtle and controlled. He is truly a contemporary modernist.

Bob Rankin

In Bob Rankin's work, there is a visual interpretation of forms and color from nature on canvas. This selection of work consists of pieces filled with intense movement and color with a foundation that owes its debt to the Abstract Expressionist movement of the 1950's.
