University of South Carolina Beaufort in Beaufort, SC, Features Traveling Graphics Exhibit

A three-year traveling print exhibition, Southern Graphics Council Show, sponsored by the Southern Graphics Council (SGC) is on view at the Performing Arts Center on the University of South Carolina Beaufort Campus in Beaufort, SC, from Sept. 7 - 25, 2006. Sponsored by the approximately 1500 member SGC, the exhibition opened at the University of Wisconsin in Madison in April and after leaving Beaufort will continue to Wichita State in Kansas, Texas Tech in Lubbock, and the University of Texas at Austin as part of its 2006- 2009 tour.

According to the exhibition's curator, USCB Adjunct Art Professor, printmaker Roger Steele, "The works of this show were garnered from the members of this international organization of printmakers and are perfect examples of the current trends in this field, some using traditional etching, lithography, and wood cut, and some using the newest technological advances of computer and digital processes."

Dr. Efram Burk, USCB Associate Professor of Art History, who specializes in the study of 20th century printmaking, juried the Southern Graphics Council Show, selecting the 33 pieces that comprise the show from 89 pieces submitted. In his Juror's Statement in the SGC traveling print exhibition catalog Dr. Burke wrote, "Altogether, I feel this exhibition speaks of the depth and extent of current graphics. This was an especially difficult exhibition to jury, however, I enjoyed the experience thoroughly."

Artworks exhibited in the show will be donated by the artists to the Southern Graphics Council Archive at the University of Mississippi at the end of the tour.
