WICKWIRE Gallery in Hendersonville, NC, Offers Works by Christine Kosiba

WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, NC, will present an exhibit of works by Christine Kosiba, on view from Sept. 1 - 30, 2006.

Kosiba began sculpting as a little girl finding clay alongside creeks then, squeezing and manipulating it into creations she could dry on her windowsill. As she grew, went through school, and taught in public schools for twelve years, she never lost that childhood fascination. "I used clay as a successful tool with my students. I've lead and taught numerous ceramics workshops and classes over the years and facilitated community projects involving ceramic arts in Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina."

Clay inspires and grounds Kosiba unlike any other medium. She derives her inspiration from the natural world and her work often incorporates symbolism related to nature's lessons and spirit - ". . . the connectedness we all share," says Kosiba.

Kosiba considers living in Western North Carolina sublime for nature and wildlife artists like her self. "This is a region of immense bio-diversity. I am fortunate to be able to draw from all this natural energy surrounding us. The reflective wisdom of bears, the clever antics of ravens, the grace of deer, the perseverance and balance of Oaks, and steady flowing of water - these are all elements of this area that nourish my creative spirit."

A beautiful day will often find Kosiba, her husband Mark and their daughter Aniela in a nearby forest close to their home in Brevard, NC. She and Mark not only harbor a deep appreciation for nature, they support both local and general wildlife rehabilitation and conservation efforts. Kosiba is a contributing artist in a Brevard, NC, local outdoor sculpture project with a bronze raven sculpture in place and a fox sculpture installation on the way. She is represented by WICKWIRE fine art/folk art in Hendersonville, NC, and her work has been seen in galleries and shows across the country.
